What I like about this book is that Pia talks about codependence as immaturity & provides a guide for us to grow ourselves up the rest of the way & heal our inner child.
This is a portrayal of the pursuit of love outside ourselves. When we believe our lovability is in someone else's hands, we find ourselves chasing after them thinking they have the love we need. Turning around inside and learning to love ourselves is the way out of the ravages of pursuing someone and attempting to convince them to love us: a tug of war that never works. Pia helps guide us back to that self love.
An outline of why intimate relationships falter & what makes them work using her personal journey as an example. She offers practical & insightful ground rules for maintaining joyous intimacy.
Every man I know is in this book. An outline of how our society shames boys-men for being vulnerable which causes havoc.
An outline of the relational skills needed to be closely connect & the “losing agenda’s” that prevent that closeness. Terry supports the more vulnerable among us to become more powerful, independent, self confident and happy. He invites the more powerful among us to learn how to respond to frustrated partners. Although the book is written in language slanted toward marriage and heterosexual/cisgendered relationships, I know the skills taught are “relationship skills” for any relationship at home or work, and across gender identities.
For spouses who feel disempowered in a relationship, here Terry teaches how to step into personal power, be heard & move into mutuality in relationships with arrogant or grandiose partners.
A deep plunge into recognizing & healing the childhood trauma that impacts our patterns in coupledom as adults. When we see ourselves as opponents (in any relational context) we block intimacy. This book supports processes of self-understanding for us to move out of opposition & into states of unity at the levels of family & society.
In this audio book Terry inspires us to engage in the mini by minute practice of connecting to others through empathy, accountability, and vulnerability. He teaches “intimacy is not something you have. It is something you do.” It is a fast paced course in “full respect living” toward deeper connection for couples.
A book that delivers knowledge & practices to better understand how the brain works & how we act & react in relationships. Stan specifically focuses on how to reduce threat & increase safety. We have a biological need to bond, thus the title. This book supports practices of safe connection as we come to know & understand our attachment wounds.
A wonderful guide for those seeking a lifetime mate to understand what to look for, what to notice & timing for the vetting process. Stans draws from neuroscience and attachment theory to guide you toward a compatible mate and how to go on to create a fabulous relationship.
A wonderful look see at reparenting the wounded self. Many of us get confused thinking that we’ll find love outside of ourselves to heal us. This book shows us how to come inside to heal our wounded parts.
Outlines how every part even if it has a destructive behavior pattern has a positive intention toward some aspect of ourselves. This book supports building compassion for all sides of ourselves.
A practical book with exercises to help you mend relationships with partners, friends & family. Exercises like “giving better back” , “do overs” inspire all of us rise up to a higher, more loving way of being that supports ourselves and our relationships.
A comparison of Judaism, Catholicism and Buddhism outlining that they all share seven spiritual truths. As a mystic, Caroline also outlines how the body carries these truths.
Oprah and Bruce hold important conversations about trauma, resilience and healing.
It is a powerful introduction to a compassionate method of seeking understanding for ourselves and others. Changing the question from “Why did you/I do x,y,z” to “What happened for you/me that you/I did xyz?” Moves us away from “shame on us” to compassionate inquiry. This response fosters care, and an ability to more deeply know ourselves and each other.

In this book Brené summarizes her years of research into women and shame. She outlines the ways women compare themselves to others and find themselves coming up “not enough.” In twelve step recovery groups there is a saying, “Compare and Despair.” Brené invites us to hold onto our own self esteem and let go the belief that if we just did “more, better” we would be accepted. Self acceptance is the healing path.
Brené in this book introduces us to ten daily practices for wholehearted living. It is an invitation to join a revolution: “a revolution to choose authenticity and worthiness as an absolute act of resistance.” Each of our story matters and so do we.
After twelve years of research Brené Brown,PhD, MSW was able to dispel the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness. Instead in this groundbreaking book she shows how vulnerability is our most accurate measure of courage. She maps out guidelines to step into the arena of life and let ourselves be seen and known first by ourselves and then by others.
Here Brene is sparking a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning into our lives. She has come to believe that “true belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are” In this time of such great disconnection she outlines four practices of true belonging that challenge everything we believe about ourselves and others.
